Main Purpose of Job

Reporting to the Business Development Director and working closely with the company directorship and senior management, the Sales Manager / Bid Manager leads the development, coordination and execution of sales opportunities. 

Relationships are key to this role and, in addition to strong collaborations with all departments at Sysco, you will need to gain an understanding of the worldwide experience production industry. Gaining insight into the makeup of the industry, the key players and driving factors, which will all feed into the sales execution strategy. 

The core of the role is the accurate and creative development of outstanding sales proposals. These proposals will vary in their makeup, but will regularly include exceptional aesthetics, compelling and comprehensive written narratives, accurate commercial elements and detailed engineering & technical information. 

These proposals often act as our voice to the market and are critical in the decision making process of our clients. They determine whether we deliver some of the world's most exciting immersive projects or not. They differentiate us from our competition and they are a truly creative, commercial and technical endeavour.

Key Responsibilities

  • To build, develop and maintain strong, valuable customer relationships with fit-out contractors / exhibition designers / suppliers / project management companies and other key organisations, acting as the lead point of contact for all project opportunities. 
  • To evaluate in detail project opportunities and associated tender documentation, offering conclusive arguments for opportunity engagement.
  • To identify and triage new opportunities working closely with the Design department to review AV design specifications and technical documentation. 
  • To work with the Business Development Director to develop strategies for winning projects, based on all intel available and employing creative ideas to set our offerings apart from the mainstream. 
  • To manage the bid preparation process, through from triage to submission, attending site surveys where necessary and engaging in technical, commercial, resource review discussions with senior members of the Sysco team (Commercial / Projects / Design / Sales) and other members of consortiums.
  • To support the Sales Administrator with pricing exercises and strategy for delivering value driven proposals.
  • To implement, assess, modify and manage processes for the sales workflow.
  • To design and develop stunning proposal presentation documentation, using slide decks, white papers, InDesign documents etc. 
  • To craft compelling and comprehensive written content that tells the Sysco story, conveys the win themes of the bid and ultimately differentiates our offer from others. 
  • To deliver comprehensive project handovers to the Project delivery team, ensuring all specification, tender, post tender adjustments, caveats, project details and associated information are fully communicated.
  • To proactively help deliver the agreed budgeted sales and marketing targets and margin mix. 
  • To monitor and report on sales activities conducted, participating in sales meetings and delivering progress reports on KPI’s.
  • To participate in the preparation of forecasting, helping to prepare business plans and schedules.
  • To support marketing activities, including attendance at events and conferences, both internally and externally.
  • To work closely with the Client Relations Manager, forming a partnership in the management of all clients and new business. 
  • To participate in the Management Team, working closely with the Leadership Team, to contribute to the wider development of the organisation in line with strategic growth.
  • To contribute to the development and ongoing management of sales and growth strategies with the Business Development Director. 

Experience / Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a Bid Management / Sales Management role in similar environment.
  • Experience in the museum & heritage or audiovisual sectors would be  advantageous. 
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven history of developing high quality written content and closing sales. 
  • Experience in delivering set targets / KPI’s with a view to driving Sales performance.
  • Strong I.T literacy.
  • A sound commercial approach is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and creating strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
